In 1949, Max Bill designed the iconic Quadratrundtisch for Wohnbedarf Zürich. With this “round-square” table, Max Bill transferred his vision of concrete art to the field of product design. The square tabletop is transformed into a round one by means of four flaps that are locked to the support by a rotation. The result is a visual impression that, with these divisions, strongly recalls the artist’s graphic works. See a video of the transformation in 5 seconds!

Max Bill (1908-1994) was one of the most important Swiss artists of the 20th century. He studied with Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee, among others, and was a visual artist, designer, graphic artist and architect. In 1950, he co-founded the Ulm School of Design and designed its buildings.

The Swiss brand Wohnbedarf edition, wb form, is available at the Kissthedesign gallery in Lausanne.
